Unit 4 Statement on 2020 IHSA Spring Sports
The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) today announced its decision to cancel all IHSA spring state tournaments. The decision comes in conjunction with the state’s recent announcement that all Illinois high schools will complete the 2019-20 school term from home.
As a result, all spring sport practices and competitions involving Unit 4 schools are cancelled for the remainder of the season regardless of future decisions by the IHSA.
“While today’s announcement by the IHSA does not come as a surprise, it certainly does not lessen the anguish felt by our athletes and coaches,” said Centennial High School Athletic Director Tony Millard and Central High School Athletic Director Jane Stillman in a joint statement. “We empathize with our seniors and those teams who were working hard to compete during their spring seasons that their seasons concluded this way.”
The IHSA’s announcement included the suspension of all summer contact days, unless state government and medical leaders indicate such gatherings are safe.
